Following rapid developments in artificial intelligence, concerns have been widely expressed that humans, and human creativity in particular, might be adversely affected by the widespread use of this technology. But what if such systems could mainly be used to leverage human strengths, compensate for human limitations, and address broader social, ethical, and legal considerations?
This publication presents the proceedings of HHAI 2025, the 4th International Conference on Hybrid Human-Artificial Intelligence, held from 9 to 13 June 2025 in Pisa, Italy. The HHAI international conferences are dedicated to the study of AI systems that amplify rather than replace human intelligence, and seek to explore all aspects of AI systems that assist and collaborate with humans, with the emphasis on adaptive, collaborative, responsible, interactive, and human-centered approaches. Contributions are welcomed from a wide range of disciplines, and the main track received 102 submissions, of which 38 were accepted (21 full papers, 8 blue-sky papers, and 9 working papers) following a thorough, double-blind peer review process. The acceptance rate for full papers was 37%. This volume includes accepted submissions from the main track as well as Doctoral Consortium papers and extended abstracts from the Posters and Demos track. Topics covered include AI, human-computer interaction, cognitive and social sciences, computer science, philosophy and ethics, complex systems.
The papers included here address a timely and essential area of research that calls for fundamentally new perspectives and methodologies, and the work will, in particular, appeal to all those interested in hybrid human-artificial intelligence.
