Company Story

IOS Press is an independent international scientific, technical, medical (STM) publishing house established in 1987 in Amsterdam. We produce around 90 journals and 70 books annually in a broad range of subject categories, primarily specializing in health and life sciences (including neurosciences, medical informatics, cancer research, and rehabilitation) and computer sciences (including artificial intelligence, data science, and semantic web). In addition, we offer specialized services that support scientific advancement.

Co-publishing relationship is established with Ohmsha Ltd., Tokyo, Japan
1996
IOS Press and Ohmsha re-establish the Akademische Verlagsgesellschaft (AKA) GmbH in Berlin, Germany
1998
 
Joint venture between Science Press (Beijing, China), Ohmsha (Tokyo, Japan), and IOS Press is established
IOS Press becomes official publisher for the NATO Advanced Study Institutes and Partnership subseries
2000
 
AKA merges with Infix, publisher of German-language books in artificial intelligence and other areas of computer science
2001
IOS Press launches IOS Press Content Library; all journals are now published online in addition to print
2005
IOS Press acquires Delft University Press

IOS Press launches its digital book platform, IOS Press Ebooks
IOS Press co-founds the first of the Academic Publishing in Europe conference series in Berlin

IOS Press acquires  Millpress Science Publishers

Launch of Semantic Web, our first fully open and transparent peer review journal

All journal articles are published in a full text HTML format, in addition to PDF and print

IOS Press publishes its 1000th ebook

IOS Press celebrates its 30th anniversary with a symposium in Amsterdam

IOS Press launches LD Connect, a linked data portal containing machine-readable metadata for all IOS Press digital publications

Back archive scanning project is complete; journals digitized from their first paper issue onwards, where possible
