Call for Papers for a Special Issue on Environmental Design

Submit before May 1, 2024

You are invited to submit a manuscript for consideration in a special issue on Environmental Design. For this issue, the editors will consider manuscripts across a broad range of professions and occupations that address how the design of the working environment affects and promotes human well-being, comfort, and organizational effectiveness.

Topics include but are not limited to: 

  • Optimizing the design of workspaces (e.g., home, office, classroom)
  • Optimizing the design of areas where humans operate (e.g., vehicle interiors)
  • Design of work furniture and associated accessories
  • Improvement of ambient conditions (e.g., heat, light, sound, vibration, air quality) in the workplace
  • Facilitation of work performance while promoting sustainability and reducing environmental impact
  • The impact of environmental design across the lifespan (i.e., child development, healthy aging)

Submissions can be a full paper following the guidelines of the journal Work (attached). It can be a paper based on an experiment, a literature review, or a vision of research. It will be peer-reviewed, like any submission to the Journal. This invitation to submit is not a guarantee that the paper will be accepted by the reviewers and editors.

January 1, 2024: Special issue open for submissions
May 1, 2024: Manuscript submission deadline
August 1, 2024: Reviews provided to authors
October 1, 2024: Final manuscripts due
Early/Late 2025: Publication of the special issue
