Disinformation remains one of the key challenges to international security, and effectively countering its effects requires synergy between many different sectors, with education and the development of digital skills playing a key role in increasing the resilience of democratic societies to the efforts of manipulative actors.
This publication presents papers from the CYBERSEC Disinfo Meeting 2024, a scientific workshop supported by the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) program on 26 and 27 November 2024, in Krakow, Poland. This event brought together representatives from academia, international organizations, and the private sector, creating a space for the exchange of knowledge and experience. The aim of the workshop was to identify the latest trends in the use of new technologies such as AI for disinformation purposes and to discuss practical solutions to strengthen the capacity of states and societies to counter information manipulation. All submissions were subjected to a stringent peer review process to ensure scientific quality, relevance, and originality. Topics covered included the psychological and behavioral mechanisms of susceptibility to disinformation; the growing role of AI in generating manipulated content; and the importance of media education and digital skills in building societal resilience Time was also devoted to the analysis of a number of international and regional cases.
Providing a comprehensive and cross-cutting overview which takes account of the multi- dimensionality of the phenomenon, this volume will be of great value to all those whose work involves the combating of disinformation and information manipulation.
