Algorithmic Finance is an high-quality academic research journal that seeks to bridge computer science and finance. It covers: High frequency and algorithmic trading, Statistical arbitrage strategies, Momentum and other algorithmic portfolio management, Machine learning and other aspects of computational financial intelligence, Agent-based finance, Complexity and market efficiency, Algorithmic analysis of derivatives valuation, Behavioral finance examining the algorithms of the investors, Applications of quantum computation to finance, News analytics and automated textual analysis.

Outgoing founding Editor in Chief Philip Maymin is looking to handover the stewardship of the journal Algorithmic Finance.

General responsibiliBes of the editorship include:

  • Leading on the strategic development of the Journal with a particular focus on maintaining and improving quality and impact.
  • Managing the receipt and timely peer review of scholarly submissions, liaising with authors, and responsibility for the selection and revision of articles.
  • Encouraging the submission of compelling academic research, with attention to early career authors.
  • Overseeing the quality work of the editorial team, including that the editorial review process is providing a satisfactory throughput of high-quality publishable papers on rolling basis (this is a continuous publication).
  • Maintaining regular contact with IOS Press and ensuring the delivery of copy according to agreed production schedules.
  • Managing and working in close liaison with the editorial board, chairing editorial board meetings and ensuring board membership reflects the varying interests and disciplines covered by the journal.
  • Represent the Journal as Editor at external events and carry out promotional activity when possible.
  • A strong understanding and commitment to accepted ethical and peer-review standards, including best practices as identified by the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Council of Science Editors.

Person Specification
The successful candidate for the post Editor-in-Chief of Algorithmic Finance is likely to possess and be able to demonstrate evidence of the following qualities:

  1. A PhD in an appropriate area.
  2. A record of publications in high-quality academic journals.
  3. International standing in the field.
  4. A commitment to the inter-disciplinary ethos of the journal.
  5. Experience of academic editing.
  6. Extensive experience of reviewing papers submitted to academic journals.
  7. A familiarity with the key journals in the field.
  8. A capacity to judge excellence in academic writing.
  9. A willingness and an ability to engage in dialogue with those submitting papers to the journal and to provide timely responses and feedback.
  10. A strong international professional network, preferably with strong links in North America and Europe and possibly Asia, Africa and other parts of the world.
  11. An ability to work closely, in a participatory way with- and to exercise leadership over- an editorial team.
  12. A capacity to develop and implement strategies to ensure the continuing success of the journal.

IOS Press invites expressions of interest by the 7th of June 2024 and is seeking a 3-5 year initial commitment.
